Green River | Full Proof
|Green River Distilling Co. is the perfect marriage of a historic backstory backed up by great whiskey. Green River was originally established in 1885 but closed down before Prohibition due to a fire. It wasn't until 2014 that the property was acquired and renovations began. In 2020, the company acquired the rights to the Green River Distilling Co. name, with the approval of McCulloch's great-grandson, Rob McCulloch, and paid homage to its heritage with distinctive bottle features. In the summer of 2022, Bardstown Bourbon Company, renowned for its collaborations and house releases, acquired Green River.
We've been fans of the Green River bourbons since they were first released, delicious bourbons at an incredible price point. The release of their Green River Rye just a few months ago was met with great enthusiasm, as the market for affordable, well-drinking ryes seemed even more slim. Today, Green River releases their fourth permanent line extension that punches the proof up a bit.
This Full-Proof iteration of Green River Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a blend of 5-7 year barrels selected from curated areas of Green River's Owensboro tile warehouses, maintaining the original blend of 70% corn, 21% rye, and 9% malted barley. The initial small batch’s proof was a sturdy 117.3 proof. Each subsequent batch is expected to have a slightly different final proof.
- The nose is rich and warming. Cranberry, cherry, fresh cider with mulling spices, thick caramel sauce, toasted vanilla, cocoa powder, and leather.
- The palate shows a touch more brown sugar, honey, and leather on the front, with plenty of dried cherry, s’mores, and baking spices continuing on. Coating and spiced.
- The finish is long and trailing with tobacco leaf, baking spices, subtle saturated dark fruits, cocoa powder, honey grahams, and balanced toasted oak.
