Blackadder Raw Cask 13-Years Single Grain Scotch Whiskey

|
We've selected this cask for two reason. This first is the most important. The cask is incredibly tasty at a price point that won't last. The flavor profile is one that bourbon enthusiast and scotch verterans will enjoy. For less than $100, it's nearly impossible to get something that 13-years olf and cask strength. Because of that we couldn't pass it up. The second reason is to illustrate what Independent Bottling looks like in the Scotch world. This is the best example of what I would like to see in American Whiskey. The Blackadder philosophy is simple. "We believe that the Cask is King". Because of the the vastly different climates, American Independent Bottlers have a huge advantage. Age a Kentucky Bourbon in Texas. Finish an Indiana rye in New Hampshire. Does a New York distilled Single Malt improve in the Florida heat? This all plays into the final profile of a cask. This is why I love a large collection of blenders and Independent Bottlers on Seelbach's. The expansion in experiments and aging enviroments rewards the drinker! I'm excited for this cask. I hope it serves as an example for what's possible in the whiskey world.

Age: 13-years-old

Proof: 122.6 proof

Seelbach's bottle count: 150 bottles

Tasting Notes: Nose: Buttery sponge, syrup-soaked oats, sawdust, and peppery spice with crisp toasted oak, cereal, and an almost mineral vibrancy.

Palate: Fluffy vanilla souffle is followed quickly by a splash of warming spice as it goes down, soon mellowed by more creamy grain and soft apricot.

Finish: Butterscotch rests beside sweet orange zest with warming notes of brandy butter bringing brilliant balance to rich charred, peppery oak spice.

About: This is a Single Grain Scotch Whisky from the North British Distillery. North British was established in 1885 to challenge  the monopoly that Distiller's Company held over grain whisky production. Grain whisky is vital to the scotch industry, with most of the production being used in Blended Scotch Whisky. So it is rare to have a Single Cask bottling of North British.

Today owned jointly by Diageo and Edrington, North British is one of 6 grain distilleries operating in Scotland.
This exclusive release was distilled June 30th,2009 and filled into first fill ex-Bourbon hogshead. Cask # 328853 was bottled in October 2022 by Blackadder International, as part of their Raw Cask series. Raw Cask whiskies are they way Whiskies used to be, receiving very light filtration, all the essential fats and oils are retained to deliver a whisky full of flavor.
