Two Bloody Butcher Bourbon Barrels
|
File these bottles under "hidden gems". Back in 2021, I was selecting a futures barrel at Bardstown Bourbon Co. BBC allows you to taste bourbon at a younger age, select the barrel and then decide when to bottle. The entire group was blown away by a wheated bourbon we were tasting. The problem was this barrel was only 18-months old. BBC requires the barrels to be at least 6-years old before bottling. Refusing to be (that) patient we opted for a barrel that was a close second. This sent me on a journey!
Through a distillery connection I was able to track down some similar barrels. These were bottled by an NDP but carried the BBC wheated mash bill. The only difference was these barrels used a heritage Bloody Butcher corn in the mash bill. They had that same buttery vanilla nose. They were backed up with fresh corn bread and cracked pepper. These will be one-off barrels. I'm thankful we at least have two different barrels. Even more excited that we were able to get special pricing for taking two barrels.
