Lost Lantern | Summer '24 collection
|If one really wanted to explore all that craft can offer under one umbrella brand, I would immediately point you to Lost Lantern. As an independent bottler of American whiskey, Lost Lantern routinely works with all styles of American whiskey, including bourbon. Before last summer they had never before devoted such a large release entirely to one single style of whiskey, but because of the reception to their first Summer of Bourbon they are back again with Volume II. Lost Lantern's Summer Collection last year was one of their most successful releases thus far, and they want to continue that again this year. This Summer Collection, Lost Lantern Summer of Bourbon 2024, once again has a simple message: Great bourbon now comes from all across the United States. It can take many forms, from bourbons made from 100% heirloom corn, to finished bourbons, to Tennessee whiskey. It can come from many climates, from the Deep South to the Pacific Northwest and everywhere in between. And this leads to an increasing number of great perspectives on America's iconic spirit.
The Lost Lantern Summer of Bourbon II Collection includes nine whiskies from twelve states across all three of their product lines. Do to the amount of bottles in this release, today we are only releasing their non-single cask releases.
Far Flung Bourbon II
The successor to last year's Far-Flung Bourbon, which scored 94 points in Whisky Advocate. This is a blend of whiskey from distilleries and regions that have never been blended before. In this case, all are from the Eastern half of the U.S ranging from cooler northern climates to the hot, humid Deep South. Components are: Kings County (NY), Starlight (IN), Wollersheim (WI), Smooth Ambler (WV), and Rich Grain Distilling (MS).
It has notes of baking spice, dark chocolate, and dried fruits on the nose, with a rich, creamy palate with powerful spice and oak.
Mississippi Memory
Rich Grain Distilling was founded to create a whiskey that truly reflected Mississippi’s hot, humid climate. Although the distillery closed in 2020, the whiskey continued to age in Mississippi for several years, and it has achieved founder David Rich’s original vision: a true Mississippi bourbon, born of the Deep South.
We created this unique marriage of Rich Grain’s 5 and 7 year old 15 gallon barrel Mississippi bourbons to honor the distillery’s vision and showcase the complexity of whiskey aged in a hot, humid climate. It has notes of graham cracker, roasted corn, and toasted oak on the nose, with chocolate cream pie, molasses, and big oak on the palate. a rich and dense bourbon. It also comes out at a whopping 140 proof.
This is their first-ever release from a ghost distillery partner (i.e., from a distillery that closed), and will be one of the only opportunities ever to try Rich Grain’s whiskey.
