Chattanooga Announces Rye Whiskey

by Blake Riber July 24, 2020

Chattanooga Whiskey added another whiskey to the Tennessee High Malt family. This time it's a rye! The new 99 Rye is made from four different grains. It's the caramel grains that really shine through. Chattanooga continues to impress! I'm excited that this will be a flagship product moving forward. See below for more details about this release.

Proof: 99 (49.5% ABV)

Mash Bill: Four grains, including a blend of slow toasted and drum roasted rye malt

Fermentation: Attemperated, 7 days

Cooperage: 53 gal, charred oak barrels

Filtration: None. Barrel occasionally captures barrel sediment

Age: Greater than 3 years

Batch Size: 6-10 barrels

Inspired by one of Chattanooga Whiskey Experimental Distillery’s first batches of whiskey, Tennessee Rye Malt is the rich, malt-forward approach to rye. This rare and flavorful style was made from an abundance of slow toasted and drum roasted rye malt, resulting in a bold reinvention of rye, brimming with sweet and savory notes of candied fruit, herbs, and spice.
