Tasting Notes: The nose is controlled and approachable, but has this dark, slightly smoked leather type note that reminds me of some of the Kelvin barrel MGPs. Caramel cake, honey, a bit spongey, classic bourbon on the nose.
The palate is rich and sweet forward with gobs of vanilla and caramel, continuing with plenty of lingering barrel char and spiced frosting in tandem. It definitely grips to the palate to match its 128 proof, but the flavor finishes more like a 110 proof. Rich berries enter the picture, spiced citrus oleo, a bit of crisp, concentrated apple. That said, the lasting flavor on the palate reminds me most closely of a fresh, salted Annie Anne’s pretzel and caramel sauce.
The finish is where this one shines, as the approachable sugars from the nose and the rich oak and fruit notes merry together, and trail long and easy well into the long finish with just a flick of smoke. This may be a classic bourbon profile, but it’s a powerful, and lasting classic bourbon profile thats easy to continue to visit.
