Smooth Ambler Private Barrel
|Smooth Ambler is back to releasing private barrels! After suspending their private barrel program in 2017 Smooth Ambler is back. These barrel picks were some of the most popular amongst whiskey collectors. We were able to get in the first wave of new barrels. And, we ended up with a fantastic barrel. See below for more details.
Mashbill: 60/36/4 corn/rye/malt
Distillation Process: Continuous column distillation.
Source: MGP Ingredients
Aging: 5-years 7-month
Proof: 118.4 proof
Tasting notes: The nose starts with some light caramel and loads of pepper. It transitions to honey, bright cherry, lemon peel, and cinnamon. The taste has some heat but balances nicely with baked bread, toasted almonds, and a little more of the lemon peel. The finish is long. It bounces between black pepper spice and honey sweetness.
Proof: 116.04 proof
Age: Blend of 18-year Kentucky whiskey with small amounts of Kentucky Corn Whiskey, Kentucky Bourbon, and Kentucky Rye
Finishing Barrel: Sicilian Amaro
Bottle size: 750 ml
Tasting Notes: Nose is floral and sweeter fruit notes. The pallet is golden raisin, honeydew, and pepper. It's complex and continues to evolve in the glass. The finish is extremely long. There are incredible herbal and white tea notes. Even 5 minutes later the finish lingers green tea and cantaloupe sherbert (strange note, but that's what I get).
