Ranger Creek .44 Texas Rye - Seelbach's Select
|Ranger Creek is a Brewery and Distillery out of San Antonio, TX. They focus on grain-to-glass whiskey from Texas ingredients. I've mentioned this before. There is something to be said about distilleries with a brewing background. Their understanding of grains and fermentation is a huge advantage. Ranger Creek is just another example of this.
Whiskey that is less than 4-years old and from smaller barrels is often a turn-off. However, Ranger Creek has figured this one out. There is no sign on youth on the nose of the palate. The spiciness and depth of flavor from the malted Danko rye shines through!
Ranger Creek .44 Texas Rye - Seelbach's Select
Age: 3-years 3-months
Proof: 94 Proof
Mash Bill: 100% malted Danko rye
Barrels: 25-gallon previous Ranger Creek bourbon barrel from Kelvin Cooperage
Bottle: 750 ml
Tasting Notes: The nose is warm baking spice. Lots of ginger, brown sugar, and cinnamon. The taste is orange zest and Lipton green tea. The whiskey coats the palate nicely. It has a little creaminess and viscosity with each sip. The finish really lingers on the iced gingerbread cookie and toasted coconut notes. There's something about malted rye that adds great mouthfeel and finish.
