Pinhook Rye Vertical Private Barrel

We have another private barrel ready to go! This time it's a Pinhook rye selected by the guys at Breaking Bourbon. This is a part of the vertical rye series. Here's the approach Breaking too:

We already did one release with Pinhook (SBC #11 “King of the Castle”), so when the idea came up to showcase how rye changes over time in a barrel with a yearly release, we jumped at it. Rye can go through some drastic changes as it ages. With the majority of rye whiskeys on the market around the 3-5 year old range, being able to juxtapose our first release at 4 years old to the following year, and eventually to a final 12-year-old whiskey should be quite shocking.

Nose: Anise | Rye spice | Creme brulee | Quite interesting

‍Palate: Baking spices | Caramel | Cotton candy | Big pop of flavors | Nice mouthfeel

‍Finish: Anise | Rye grain | Caramel | Touch of oak | Sweetness lingers

Tasting Notes: This rye starts out with crystallized ginger. It moves into mint and peppery spice. There's a note of vanilla and honey. It continues to hold a great balance of high spice from taste to finish. There's enough sweetness to backup the heat and spice. This is a great example of 95/5 rye.
