Heaven's Door Single Barrel Selected by Seelbach's
|
There is a lot of momentum presently for Heaven's Door, co-founded by Bob Dylan and Marc Bushala (formerly of Angel's Envy). For starters, there's their upcoming distillery located on over 160 acres of rolling hills astride Six Mile Creek in Pleasureville, Kentucky. Secondly is their brand center opening just outside of downtown Louisville, housing a small live music venue, a private event space and a restaurant and bar. Both of these slated to be open in the Fall of this year.
While we wait for picks of their Kentucky distilled single barrels, we are sharing this new 5 year, 3 month 70% corn, 22% rye, 8% barley bourbon distilled in Tennessee.
Big buttery brown sugar, vanilla, raisin, tobacco, and maple start the nose, lightly with leather and soft stone fruits continuing. More of that leather fills the nose as the bottle is open.
The palate begins with dried leather, espresso, and oak, then continues with creamy vanilla and fruit-wrapped peppery spice and chocolate lava cake.
The finish maintains the spice and brings back warm toasted oak, all without forgetting plump stone fruits and dried fruit notes like cranberry and cherry long and lingering.
This is another great example of the excellent barrels coming out of Tennessee, and a wonderful everyday sipper that drinks above it's age.
