Breuckelen Distilling 6-Year American Single Malt Rum Cask|
Breuckelen Distilling started in 2010 in Brooklyn, NY. In the craft world, that makes them an elder. Breuckelen continues to plug along and doing things their own way. They're willing to experiment. But, they also focus on making a truly New York product. We've carried various products from them in the past.
Story: It spent the final year aging in a 53 gallon barrel from a Jamaican rum distillery. The barrel was originally jack Daniels, it has the stamps but we couldn't find an original date. It looked like it had been around for a long time . There was some rum residual in the barrel and we removed a small amount to taste. It was like taking a sip of asphalt, in the most delicious possible way.
Prior to that it was double distilled whiskey distilled from a malt mash. It was aged in our own used 25 gallon barrels. We vatted together 10 barrels (I believe) to fill the two rum casks.
The barley was grown by the same farmer we work with regularly and malted by Andrea at Valley Malt in Hadley, MA.
