Tasting Notes: This nose is just like the aroma of walking through a rickhouse - all sorts of sweet oak, buttered toffee, caramel, and leather. Classic for Woodford double oaked but continues to grow these glazed donut, orange oil essence, and Dr. Pepper notes the longer it sits in the glass.
The palate is velvety - candied leather with a lovely worn oak growing more the longer it sits. There’s a rounded dark black cherry note as well that continues on the palate, combined with this savory vanilla extract sweetness that makes for a boozy Dr. Pepper. Even longer are notes of amaretto and green apple.
The finish is buttery with cocoa powder, leather, and more clinging caramel dipped apples lingering on.
About: Woodford Reserve Double Oaked was released in February 2012, more than 15 years after the release of standard Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select. Woodford Double Oaked is produced by re-barreling Woodford Reserve Distiller’s Select in a second virgin charred oak barrel for a little under a year. The second barrel used is deeply toasted before being lightly charred.
