The legacy of I.W. Harper bourbon traces back to the industrious spirit of Isaac Wolfe Bernheim, a German immigrant whose journey to the United States in 1867 ignited a legacy of distilling excellence. Alongside his brother Bernard, Isaac founded Bernheim Brothers in Paducah, KY in 1872, eventually introducing the iconic I.W. Harper brand in 1879. With a golden triumph at the New Orleans Exposition in 1885, the brand swiftly rose to prominence. Despite setbacks, including a distillery fire and the challenges of Prohibition, the Bernheim legacy endured. Surviving on a medicinal spirits license, the brand changed hands over the years until finding a home with Schenley in 1937, marking the beginning of an international expansion that reached 110 countries. However, by the late 20th century, I.W. Harper withdrew from the U.S. market, opting for an exclusive focus on international distribution, attributed in part to efforts to curb the "grey market" trade.

Decades later, Diageo revitalized the brand, relaunching I.W. Harper in the United States in 2015. Distilled at Heaven Hill's modern Bernheim distillery, this revival marked a triumphant return to American shelves, drawing excitement from whiskey enthusiasts eager to savor the rich heritage of this storied bourbon. As the legacy of Isaac Wolfe Bernheim lives on through each sip of I.W. Harper, enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the opportunity to experience the culmination of centuries-old craftsmanship embodied in every bottle.
