Nose: The proof comes through on the nose, the floral and wheat components come through opening up to sweet oak, orange zest, burnt sugar and honey.
Palate: Rich mouthfeel, sweet toffee and crème brûlée. Light on the oak, a hint of banana bread but tons of rich, sweet dessert. The ABV comes through by way of spice. A hint of gingerbread, black pepper and ginger round out the long spicy finish.

About the product: Back in March, the Mash and Journey Whiskey Club went on an epic barrel picking experience at Ben Holladay in Missouri. After a great tour and learning about the history of the distillery that spans back to the mid 1800's, we were fortunate enough to taste 10 different barrels, 5 rye bourbons and 5 wheated bourbons. What we ended up with are 2 incredibly impressive bourbons.
Bourbon is by definition American-made. The spirit can only be made in the United States and it can be made in any state, but the finest bourbon results from an ideal combination of climate and geology that is rare outside of Kentucky but is found in the rolling hills of Weston, Missouri.
The Holladay Distillery was founded in 1856, making it both the oldest distillery in the state of Missouri and the oldest distillery west of the Mississippi still operating on its original site. The property sits on active limestone springs that were first charted by Lewis and Clark in 1804, more than fifty years before Ben Holladay purchased the land that would later become his legacy.
