Mash Bill: 70/20/10 Corn/Rye/Malted Barley
Age: 7-Years
Proof: 100.1 proof (barrel proof)
Barrel: 53-gallon, McGinnis Cooperage, Char #4
Bottle Count: 60 bottles
Tasting Notes: The nose opens with orange peel and raspberry yogurt. There's golden raisin, cinnamon sticks, and rose petals. After sitting for a few minutes I pick up honeysuckle and caramel notes that I love. The taste is oranage soda and cinnamon. Then I start to get a mineral note as it moves through the mid-palate. The finish pops with a little bit of toasted coconut and fresh cherries.
There is a mouthfeel and viscosity in a low-proof barrel proof that you can't beat. Finger Lakes Distilling enters the barrel at 100 proof. Over seven years of aging, the barrel flavors have condensed and amplified. Nothing is hidden by the burn of alcohol. They're all working together to create a complex and rich whiskey.
If you couldn't tell already, I love what Finger Lakes Distilling is doing. They've been distilling for over 10-years. They've experimented and learned through trial and error. Thankfully they're still slightly under the radar. Because of that, we continue to have some of these fantastic picks!
