Tasting Notes: Nose: Almonds, tropical fruit skins, slightly earthy, sea spray
Palate: Dark chocolate covered almonds, rye spice, orange oil & a touch of mint on the finish
This selection was done by Aaron Goldfarb and Robert Simonson. That is why we nicknamed the barrel "Writer's Rye". For this whiskey NY Distilling used brasetto rye. It is a hybrid rye that is high yielding with huge seeds. This rye added a chocolate note that I never pickup in rye whiskey.
Tasting Process: We started with 8 samples ranging in age and rye varietal. When selecting barrels I usually look for two categories. Something completely unique and off-profile or the flagship product on steroids. At the end of the tasting we were left two barrels. One that was off-profile(#379) and the other a Ragtime on steroids (#417). Thankfully, we were able to grab them both!
