Oaklore Distilling
|As the weather warms up I like to reach for something a bit more soft and sweet - which is perfect for these 92 proof staples from Oaklore Distilling Co out of Matthews, North Carolina we'll be talking about today.
Oaklore Distilling is celebrated for its meticulous approach to crafting premium spirits, particularly whiskey. Known for their dedication to quality and innovation, Oaklore combines traditional techniques with a commitment to using the finest ingredients, resulting in spirits that are rich in flavor and character. As a standout in the industry, Oaklore continues to redefine craft distilling with their distinctive offerings.
Their Four Grain Bourbon is very approachable, spiced sugar browning pocket more than fruit and a kiss of charred oak. Bringing together their best 4- to 6-year-old barrels from their sister distilleries in North Carolina and Kentucky, they batch them, let them get to know each other for 48 hours or so, then re-barrel them in the same barrels for additional aging. Once they feel the barrels are ready and matured, they batch them one last time before proofing and bottling to 92-proof.
The nose is cinnamon pretzel, pecan, buttered cake, honeysuckle, cream.
The palate is gentle and creamy - Frosted flakes, cornbread, heavy baking spices, and toffee.
The finish is dry, and dances between butterscotch sweetness and baking spices.
Oaklore North Carolina Straight Rye Whiskey
Their North Carolina Rye gives big sweetness for those who otherwise may say they aren't a rye fan. Bringing together their best 6-year-old barrels from their sister distillery in North Carolina, their rye whiskey is a grain-to-glass local product, showcasing what the ideal climate of the Piedmont region of North Carolina can do to a whiskey as it ages. The constant large swing in daily temperature year-round forces the barrels to breath deeper and more often, allowing the whiskey to penetrate the grooves at a higher rate.
The nose is young oak, bubblegum, and agave.
The palate is similar to the nose - bubblegum and agave sweetness before the usual candied rye spices.
Very sweet-forward for a rye, with nice candied mint finishing.
