J. Henry & Sons Single Barrel Bourbon

|

J. Henry has consistently been one of the best craft distilleries in the country.

In 2008, Joe Henry decided to resurrect an heirloom red corn. This was a corn Joe's father had grown for decades in the 40's. Since this corn hadn't been grown in some time, they had to repropagate the grain themselves. All the grain used in J. Henry Bourbon comes from Henry Farms. Their soil to bottle approach results in an undeniably good product.  We've offered a handful of their products on the site over the years, but are excited to offer up our first single barrel bourbon.

Coming in just 2 months shy of 6-years-old and 120.4 proof, if you were a fan of (or missed) their Anniversary Blend, you don't want to sleep on this bottle.

The nose opens with fruity butterscotch, vanilla bean ice cream, and custard, all lifted by bright orange peel. With more time, it deepens into darker notes of raisin, date, and oatmeal cream pie that linger longer in the glass.

The palate is rich and layered. Sweet butterscotch and honey coat the front, before shifting into black pepper and vanilla at mid-palate. From there, tropical fruit cocktail and sweet oak emerge, giving a lively contrast.

Texture and mouthfeel define the finish, dense and creamy, reminiscent of High Wire’s Jimmy Red but with added spice and earthiness. As it grows drier, jammy fruits, tobacco, and citrus peel continue to resonate, trailing long after each sip.
