Barrell 21-Year Apricot Brandy Finished Whiskey

Earlier this year, I connected with the team at Barrell to taste through some of their more unique, one-off offerings we could bring to the Seelbach's audience. Coming off our Foundation single barrel, 13.5-year Wyoming, and 18-Year American Whiskey finished in Islay Scotch casks, we knew we wanted to continue with something unique.

We tasted through several different finishes, from Armagnac to Ice Wine to Amburana, but it was this 20+ year Canadian Whiskey finished in Apricot Brandy that stood out. It drank nowhere near its proof while still staying huge on the palate. Several months later, we're excited to bring this flavor bomb to reality.

This is bottled under their Black Label series, a concept that takes Barrell back to their roots of creating unique whiskeys in extremely limited quantities while showcasing cutting-edge blending methods and techniques that set them apart.

One of the most dangerously drinkable pours of 2026. Now don’t get me wrong, this one packs some heat, but not nearly as much as it should given how jammy, bright, and fruit-forward it is.

Apricot jam, mixed fruit gummies, slightly smoked vanilla, and, surprisingly, a generous amount of aged oak lead the nose. The more you sit with it, the richer those brown sugar syrup notes grow, adding another layer of dark sweetness underneath all that fruit.

The palate is vibrant and juicy, hitting first with bright stone fruit before those flavors deepen and become a little more saturated and honeyed. Decadent caramel and vanilla swirl through the mid-palate before giving way, again, to a lasting presence of mature oak and a heavy dose of barrel spice.

The finish is long and semi-dry, with sugary fruit leading the way and citrus zest keeping things bright before richly spiced sweet oak takes over, lingering long, warm, and tingling on the palate.
