Introducing Silverthorn Reserve

We are always on the hunt for blenders crafting exceptional spirits. Brands like Pursuit Spirits, K. Luke, Forward/Slash, 15 Stars, Circle City, Barrell Craft Spirits, etc. have shown just how much creativity, precision, and personality can be brought to whiskey through thoughtful blending. Today, we are excited to welcome the newest one to Seelbach’s: Silverthorn Reserve.

 

Silverthorn Reserve was founded by Drew Thorn after spending a decade helping launch and build Sagamore Spirit into a national whiskey brand. For his next chapter, Drew wanted to create something intentionally smaller. Without the focus on scale, it allows the whiskey and the individual barrels to determine the direction of each release.

 

The focus is narrow by design: single-barrel curation, custom finishes, and carefully constructed blends made from as few as two and no more than ten barrels. Every barrel undergoes sensory analysis, while batches are slowly blended and proofed before being returned to the barrels to rest and integrate.

 

Just as important, Silverthorn approaches each release with transparency. Every bottle includes a statement of composition detailing its sources, mash bills, and blend ratios. 

 

This is exactly the type of independent whiskey project we love showcasing: small in scale, transparent in its process, and built around creating something both delicious and interesting, and goes to show that the hand putting the whiskey together can matter as much, or even more, than the whiskey itself. 

 

The 10-year Blender's Art Bourbon is a blend of 8 barrels that brings together 14-year 4-grain bourbon from GA, with 10-year high-malt bourbon from IN and 10-year low-rye bourbon from KY. It has caramel, vanilla, and maple on the nose. It opens with caramel and light brown sugar on the pallet before transitioning into baking spices across the mid-palate, and then finishing with a clean, light oak.

 

The 10-year Blender's Art Rye is a blend of 8 barrels that brings together 13-year high-rye, with 10-year high-rye, 10-year low-rye, and 1 barrel of 10-year high-rye double oak. The nose is reminiscent of a cinnamon pastry with vanilla icing. The pallet moves from caramels and brown sugar into soft baking spices before seamlessly finishing with rich, sweet oak.

 

The 10-year Blender's Art Bourbon & Rye marries vanilla, butterscotch, and toffee from 13-year straight bourbon on the front and middle palate with a measured amount of 10-year rye spice finish that leaves you with hints of cinnamon, anise, and oak.

 

The 10-year Finisher's Art Port Finish Rye isn't the typical fruit and wine forward flavor profile. Instead, they marry the toffee, fig, and hazelnut flavor profiles of an award winning 10-year Tawny Port, with the cinnamon, anise and oak of 10-year straight rye whiskies through the art of secondary cask maturation. While it might not be typical, we think these flavors pair exceptionally well and deliver a delicious pour. This has been one of our favorite finished whiskeys of the year. 

 

This collection is a total 10 barrels for their 13-year Single Barrel Rye, individually selected for their stand-alone excellence. Each barrel has its own flavor profile, but you can expect rye bread and dark sugars on the nose, brown sugar and baking spices across the pallet, and long finish with black pepper and moderate oak.
