We’re excited to introduce you to a new name in Kentucky bourbon from a revival distillery: Silk Velvet. Not only was this one of our favorite pours at the Kentucky Bourbon Festival, it quickly became one of the most talked-about brands among whiskey enthusiasts all weekend... and for good reason. If you chase after the likes of Buffalo Trace or Blanton’s, this is the kind of pour you’re looking for. We knew we had to bring it to Seelbach’s, so today we’re offering both their Small Batch Select and Single Barrel Bourbon.

In 1880, Colonel A.S. Winstead founded Silk Velvet in Henderson, Kentucky, crafting a bourbon that quickly gained national recognition for its unparalleled smoothness. With a commitment to handcrafted sour mash whiskey, Winstead built a legacy that defined excellence in Kentucky bourbon.

Silk Velvet flourished for decades, becoming a staple of quality bourbon, but like many legendary brands, it fell silent with Prohibition. The Winstead Distillery shuttered its doors, and a bourbon that once reached all corners of the country faded into history.

After more than a century of silence, Silk Velvet is reborn. The Hargis family, lifelong Hendersonians, partnered with Jacob Call, an 8th-generation master distiller, to hand-select barrels that honor the legacy of the original Silk Velvet. With every bottle, the spirit of Colonel Winstead’s vision lives on—rich, velvety, and unforgettable.

For their Small Batch Select,  Jacob Call blends 12 hand-selected barrels to strike the perfect balance of character and complexity. This batch marries two mashbills — 70% corn, 21% rye, 9% malted barley and 78% corn, 13% rye, 9% malted barley. Bottled at 107 proof, if you are looking for vanilla cream and sweet caramel with great mouthfeel - this is your winner.

The nose brings vanilla frosting, wildflower honey, barrel char, nougat, dried cranberry, and candied walnuts into view.

The palate continues playful and lively with brown sugar, honeysuckle, dried cherry and cranberry, creamy nougat, apple cider, and charred oak.

The finish carries both peppery citrus as well as sweet caramel and oak, with cocoa powder lingering on.

For their single barrels,  Jacob Call hand-selects from their aging stock to showcase the richness and character of Kentucky bourbon. Aged 6-7 years in #4 charred American oak and bottled at 107 proof, each release offers layers of caramel, toasted oak, and warm spice, finishing smooth and lingering. For those who want a slightly more complex, fruit-forward pour - this is your winner.

The nose brings delicate, softly aromatic top notes of vanilla, maraschino cherry, and gentle oak.

The palate erupts with ripe stone fruit and sweet caramel sauce, continuing with plush nougat, milk chocolate, and a pleasant peppery nip to the end of the sips.

The palate into the finish is where this shines, just a lovely, silky mouthfeel, not lacking for the proof, with continuing sweet oak, candied almonds, and lasting cherry cordial in a long fruity finish.
