Our First Green River Wheated Single Barrel

We've been fans of Green River bourbons since they were first released, delicious whiskeys at an incredible price point. Our last trip to Bardstown Bourbon Company a few months ago was extra special: it was the first time our larger Seelbach's team was able to pick barrels together, and also the first time we had Green River Wheated Bourbon in the mix. Both barrels over 6 years old, Seelbach's #5 keeps the original blend of 70% corn, 21% rye, and 9% malted barley, coming in at 127.8 proof and embracing every bit of its strength. Our Seelbach's #1 Wheated Bourbon swaps rye for wheat, coming in at 116.8 proof. It’s a delicious single barrel, and a standout expression of Green River’s wheated flavor.

The nose is spiced caramel and nougat, with raspberry and cherry candies following after. Expressed orange and toasted oak continue on, giving off a little Russell’s vibe.

The palate punches at nearly 130 proof. Deep and oaky on the first sips, making way for a classic Kentucky hug. Overcooked apple pie, semi-sweet chocolates, and caramel pudding coat the mid-palate before a burst of raspberry bon bons.

The finish is rich and coating, with spiced tobacco, overcooked caramel, slightly smoked vanilla cream, and charred oak.

The nose is luxurious and creamy from the start: caramel drizzle, wildflower honey, tropical fruit cocktail, vanilla bean ice cream, orange cream soda, and sweet oak.
 
The palate is equally silky and creamy as the nose. Flavors unfold dynamically, from creamy caramel cappuccino to multi-layered oak, to sparkling blueberry soda, with just a touch of lemon pepper closing out the sip.
 
The finish coats the tongue like honey, carrying notes of lasting lemon pepper, brown sugar, vanilla, and warming oak.
