Augusta Buckner
|Last year around this same time, Augusta Distillery was celebrating winning Best Overall Bourbon for their Buckner's 13 in the San Francisco Spirits Competition. Today, they celebrate much in the same way, being one of 12 whiskies earning Double Gold in the New York International Spirits Competition for their Buckner's 10 as they await the who takes home Best Bourbon.
Buckner's 10 was the most recent age mark in the Buckner's line from Augusta Distillery, joining the ranks with their award winning Buckner's 13-year and Buckner's 15-year expressions (although just a few hours ago we saw the announcement of a 17-year Buckner's that we're excited to keep our eyes on). We've released a number of their crushable yet complex Old Route 8 barrels, but also a handful of these Buckner's 10-year barrels. While the Old Route 8's pack some higher proof and punch, Buckner's 10 highlights a bit more drinkability and nuance while still offering a maturity not often found in younger distillations.
We've saved what we think are our best two barrels for last.
- Very confectionary on the nose - giving Cow Tales or some sort of caramel chew or cream filled donut. Soft leather, warm chocolate sauce, sweet oak.
- Balanced red fruits, creamy caramel and vanilla, and perfectly placed oak. When someone says they want a good, aged bourbon, this is the profile they are expecting.
- The finish is long, balanced, and sweet - with all the previously mentioned notes lingering on.
Augusta Distillery Buckner's 10-Year Single Barrel Bourbon Barrel #36 110.6 proof - Selected by Seelbach's
- The nose is rich in caramels, cherry turnover, warm cinnamon butter and softly toasted oak.
- The palate is rich and creamy, giving viscosity and focus to all the notes mentioned on the nose. Bright cherry pie, a touch tropical, with decadent caramel covered oak, and long lasting waves of spices.
- The finish is long, fruity, and trailing. Pecan pie, dark cherry and other dried fruits, with long toasted oak.
