While most Calvados is proofed lower for bottling, this 33 year bottling is a cask strength expression of a very long aged Calvados, offering spirits enthusiasts the rare experience of a well balanced Calvados exceeding 80 proof. This one of a kind bottling offers an accurate example of the exceptional apple orchards and distillation of Reux, France.
Tasting Notes: The nose is dense and buttery, with layers of rich caramel, strawberries, and sugared spice reminiscent of fresh apple cider donuts, all while carrying a sweet, earthy oakiness.
The palate is basically liquid apple pie. Gripping and semi-dry, it leads with waves of apple cider and mango tea, moving into fig jam, dried pineapple, dried cherries, and a touch of strawberry vinaigrette.
The finish remains lively and electric, yet coating and saturating as the notes from the palate taper long and slow into a welcomed drying finish of brown sugar, caramel, cooked apples, sweet baking spices, and walnuts.
