Tasting Notes

Nose: Tons of vanilla on the initial waft with dark toffee MGP and an all-spice, cardamom, ginger, slightly earthy funk aspect to the mid-nose. There's a deep vanilla bean base on a slight wafer cookie. The fruits are a combination of confectioner sugar covered lemon toffee bon-bon (an English hard but chewy toffee ball, with a sherbet powder covering), with a slight strawberry/berry compote fruit punch note. There's a well aged oak backbone to the nose reminiscent of a good Russell's single barrel that's semi-sweet and only very slightly ashy from the barrel char. It's clean like charcoal with some sweet pipe tobacco inside the vanilla bean toffee wafer cookie base.

Palate: Lovely viscous toffee up front with the vanilla-bean base, a peach/pear stone fruit front palate, then an explosion of clean baking spices, all-spice, black pepper, followed by the lemon-sherbet mid-palate crescendo, transitioning back to sweet, sweet caramel, a hint of the berry compote and vanilla wafer, and a finish of that semi-sweet oak that clings to the cheeks, pleasant, not overly drying, but more saddle leather, than sweet tobacco on the very finish. The finish is delicate and while not overly proofy, the spice hugs the cheeks enticing you back for another sip. This is a bourbon "sipper" that you will keep reaching for. It would complement a mild macanudo or Connecticut cigar really well. In the backyard around the fire, this bottle will disappear before your eyes. "Damn. So good, it’s gone!"
