About the product: A dual release, APW No. 3 will consist of a 15YO and 9YO bourbon. Like Derek and his brother David, these two bourbons shared the same parents (distillery) and DNA (mashbill) - distilled from a grain bill of 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malted barley.
They tasted many great bourbons for this release, but these two stood out as special. Derek added, “Like brothers, they came from the same place but their different life experiences resulted in their unique character. That’s what makes these bottles so fun to drink, especially side by side.”
9-Year Tasting Notes: The nose is gentle, yet layered. Notes of brandied cherries, English toffee, walnut praline, and black walnut bitters are softly interwoven, with a hint of lemon oil and antique wood lingering throughout.
The palate opens richer and sweeter - like a slice of pecan pie with semisweet chocolate, followed by creamy nougat dusted with Saigon cinnamon and a touch of blondie bar.
The finish is long and creamy for its proof, with waves of salted maple cold foam, warming oak, and a medley of complementary baking spices.
15-Year Tasting Notes: “Perfumed and inviting” is an understatement. Saturated notes of strawberry gummies, lychee, and Concord grape lead the way, wrapped in elegant oak, worn leather, and a drizzle of caramel. It's bright, candied, and deeply aromatic.
The palate is chewy and fruit-forward, but never overbearing. Layers of complex spice, buttery caramel, dried cherry, and a touch of drying chocolate and espresso add richness and depth.
The finish is long and persistent, unfolding in waves of caramel, spice, and fruit — again and again. A genuinely enjoyable pour from an increasingly sought-after source.
