What Is Tempranillo: “Tempranillo is a black grape variety widely grown to make full-bodied red wines in its native Spain. Its name is the diminutive of the Spanish temprano ("early"), a reference to the fact that it ripens several weeks earlier than most Spanish red grapes. Tempranillo has been grown on the Iberian Peninsula since the time of Phoenician settlements. It is the main grape used in Rioja, and is often referred to as Spain's noble grape. The grape has been planted throughout the globe's wine regions.” (thanks, Wikipedia!)
Tasting Notes: A roomful of thumbs way up for a reason, this Tempranillo finished cask 6668 is a masterpieces that combines sweet malt, dense cocoa, dry red wine and gobs of complexity. Sweet red berries on the palate meet cocoa, a touch of pepper, big malt and modest, sweet oak. Unbelievably complex. The finish goes on for ages, combining red berries, a hint of tobacco and char, and layer after layer of sweet cream, honey and caramels. Decadent, to say the least.
