Two Unique Beyke's Blue Cask Strength Single Barrels

Since starting the brand last year, we’ve released Beyke’s Blue Batches 01 and 02, along with Double Oaked Batches 01 and 02. And while I can always blend toward how I feel the whiskey shines best, sometimes it’s better to just let the whiskey do all the talking.

As we taste through barrels for each batch, there are naturally a few that we take particular note of. Maybe they’re a little richer, a little more fruit forward, a little more off-profile, or just interesting enough that we want to keep them on their own to watch what they do instead of blending them away.

We’ve had quite a few requests for single barrels since launching Beyke’s Blue, but with the limited number of these barrels in our hands, we’ve had to be pretty selective. You may have already seen the first one make its way to our friends at The Good Pour in Florida, but now it’s finally time to give Beyke’s Blue Single Barrel a wider welcome. And we thought these first two were a pretty great way to do it.

Both barrels are 7 years and 9 months old, but they show two very different sides of what this Kentucky blue corn bourbon has to offer.

Barrel 25-0710 comes in at 128 proof and is big, rich, and concentrated, with berry jam, stewed apples, and plenty of deep sweetness and oak.

Barrel 26-0146 comes in naturally at 113 proof and is much more about balance and nuance, with citrus, tropical fruit, and a beautiful creaminess throughout.

Showcasing that difference is part of what makes these so much fun, and a pretty good example of just how wide the flavor range can be from these barrels.

Absolutely crushable and surprisingly approachable at cask strength. The nose opens with loads of brown sugar and lemon-lime before moving into a bright, almost tropical fruit medley and dry oak.

The palate is exceptionally well balanced, beginning with a fantastic combination of orange soda, butter pecan, and blueberry honey. Vanilla custard, brown sugar, and cream soda continue to build, joined by a creamy layer of mature oak that gives the sweetness plenty of structure.

The finish is long and silky, returning to a confectionery mix of caramel, milk chocolate, and nougat before an even longer linger of lemon-lime, dried pineapple, and slightly nutty sweet oak.

Rich cedar, deep leather, and seasoned oak begin the nose, giving it a profile that’s both rich and intense. Luxardo cherry follows, moving into fresh blueberry scone and warm apple cider.

The palate is warm and intense, heavy with baked apples, blackberry compote, semi-sweet chocolate, and spiced oak. The more you sip, the creamier and more expansive it grows, still carrying a heavy dose of mixed berries, cinnamon raisin loaf, and a sweet strand of wildflower honey before turning toward playful, tingly Sweet Tarts candy.

The finish carries those sweet and tart notes forward as a rich, deep cherry note builds from the palate. Date bar, blackstrap rum, and seasoned oak add darker layers, leaving a finish that’s deep, warming, and impressively persistent.
