Two New Tennessee Single Barrels from Silverbelly

Unless you've been a Seelbach's member for a couple of years you may not be as familiar with Silverbelly Whiskey. Legendary country music artist, Alan Jackson, is the man behind the brand. Brian and I traveled to Nashville in 2024 to select our first round of single barrels. But, even as a huge AJ fan, that's not what drew me to this brand. There are plenty of celebrity brands out there. Very few have come close to making a splash like Silverbelly. Back in June they opened their own Distillery, Bar and Museum. They're bringing lots of new drinkers to the whiskey world that were simply Alan Jackson fans.

But, more about these barrels. What I really love is that they're now at cask strength. I'm a huge fan of this source with it's flavor profile of dark fruit and custard notes. The first barrel we selected hit those notes exactly. Rich, sweet and really well developed. Only problem was it was marked as a "short barrel". Then came a straggler sample on the back of the table. I've had a few Tennessee Wheated bourbons in the past. Nothing that compared to this sample in age and flavor. While it wasn't the original plan, there was no way to walk away from two great barrels. I've given several reason for liking Silverbelly. But, the closing detail for me is the value. There just aren't many better options on the market for under $60. The nose is dense with brown sugar syrup and expressed orange peel, joined by a welcome hit of sour watermelon rope candy, hot fudge brownie, sweet oak, and a touch of leather.

The palate brings orange creamsicle, spiced black cherry syrup, and hot chocolate powder, with a slightly smoked custard richness lingering long across the palate.

The finish moves toward Dutch apple pie, as buttery graham cracker crumble, warm cinnamon and nutmeg, and caramelized apple skin come together in a long, enveloping finish that somehow feels both crisp and creamy.

Fragrant honey, cinnamon raisin muffins, and slightly damp, mature oak create an elegant and captivating start to the nose.

The palate begins deep yet effortless, with perfumed oak, golden raisin, and blueberry compote taking the lead. As it rests, honeyed sweetness and a richer texture begin to emerge, moving the profile toward gently spiced plum.

The finish is long and complex, maintaining an elegant vanilla cream silkiness while layers of mixed berries and sweet oak continue to unfold.
