It has been nearly a year and a half since we first introduced you to Wayward Cask, one of the many brands created by Turner and Jordan of Rolling Fork and Bourbon de Luxe. Today we are thrilled to share two extraordinary new releases: a 23-Year Calvados Pays d’Auge and the newest batch of their 10-Year Wheated Cask Wonder Small Batch Rum.
Wayward Cask celebrates the beauty of French brandies from the Armagnac and Calvados regions. Calvados Pays d’Auge is known for its fruit-forward and complex character, often evoking stewed apple and oak spice. While most Calvados is bottled at lower proof, this rare 23-year-old is presented at cask strength, offering enthusiasts the uncommon experience of a well-balanced Calvados above 80 proof. It is a striking reflection of the orchards and distillation of Reux, France.
Syrupy and layered, yet crisp and awakening. Dutch apple pie, cider, apricot, and caramel frosting. Warm, fresh, with a gentle earthy oakiness.
The palate is vibrant, dancing with mango green tea, apple cider, raspberry balsamic vinaigrette, and transiting into fig, dried apricot, and dried cherries.
The finish is long and bright, apple cider moving into dried apple, spiced brown sugar, and a zesty, but balanced placement of mature oak.
Next we have the latest batch of their Wheated Cask Wonder. Wheated Cask Wonder is a small-batch blend of four barrels of rum distilled in St. Philip, Barbados. It was aged for 8-years at the distillery in bourbon casks before Rolling Fork aged the rum for an additional 2 years in rare, 19-year-old wheated bourbon casks sourced from Bardstown, Kentucky.
The rum opens with notes of dark fruit, sweet vanilla and light baking spices, and rolls out over the palate with a full-bodied texture. It’s a powerful rum that will appeal to high-end rum drinkers and bourbon enthusiasts equally. To deliver this flavor profile at its maximum potential, Rolling Fork bottled this rum non-chill filtered and without additives.
