Blue Note Juke Joint is dollar for dollar some of the best quality out there, especially when it comes to cask strength single barrel bourbon and rye. They also remain one of our most highly recommended bourbons for those seeking exceptional value at a higher proof. In our opinion, a well-selected bottle of Blue Note can easily hold its own against higher-proof offerings from Buffalo Trace.

We are back today with our third Blue Note Rye single barrel, as well as a new high-corn mash bill bourbon. Appropriately named “Sangria,” our new bourbon goes back to what made us fall in love with Blue Note in the first place: rich fruit and sweet oak. Our “Cherry Pie” rye is a 95/5 Kentucky rye that gives plenty of apple concentrate on the nose and fresh cherry pie depth on the palate. Both are fantastic single barrels at a fantastic price.

The nose is a quick reminder of why we keep coming back to Blue Note. It’s full and fruit-driven right away, almost sangria-like, with plump red fruits, honey-dipped raisins, and a rich candied fruit sweetness coated in rich cooked sugars.

The palate leans into that same fruit-forward profile, opening like a dense fruit salad with a classic brown sugar underneath. There’s a tropical fruit cocktail note that gives it some brightness, but the pour stays round, rich, and easy to keep revisiting as sweet oak and gentle nips of spice surface.

The finish keeps that candied fruit character going, with lingering honeyed raisin, heavy simple syrup, and just enough warmth and charred oak to keep it from drinking too soft. Delicious, plump, and exactly the kind of profile that makes Blue Note a constant offering for us on the site.

The nose opens deep and rich, with apple reduction, soft cream, and a lightly candied orchard fruit sweetness. It’s immediately inviting, leaning into caramel apple pie, polished oak, and soft leather.

There’s a plushness to it right away, but a brighter rye character sits underneath, almost more familiar to MGP rye.

The palate is creamy and rounded, with bright fruit, white pepper, and baking spice working through the sip. It’s velvety in texture, and while apple remains present, there’s this dark cherry and fresh pie crust note that grows as well - like an apple and cherry turnover in one.

The finish continues rich and layered with gentle spice, creamy vanilla, and lingering fruit, tapering with a clean pop of pepper, semi-sweet chocolate, and sweet baking spice.
