If Tootsie Roll Made A Whiskey

|

One of the most under-the-radar series we release at Seelbach’s has to be the Dancing Goat Sourced Whiskey Series. Over the years, it has featured everything from a 21-year light whiskey, to a 9-year port finished rye, to a 7-year Colombian oak aged bourbon. We’ve seen corn whiskey finished in cherry bitters, blends of bourbon and malt, and bourbon blended with light whiskey. Each release pushes boundaries, always offering incredible value for the flavor-curious.

Now comes Release 009. Built on the familiar 95% rye base from their I Would Rye 4 U bottlings, this whiskey is aged in used cooperage then finished in chocolate bitters barrels, coming in at 10-years old and bottled at 115 proof.

From Manhattans, to espresso martini riffs, to a straight pour that feels like a roller coaster ride, Swiss Misters may be one of the most unique entries in the series yet.

Ever wondered what it would be like if Tootsie Roll made a whiskey? This is it. Joking aside, this reminds me of one of my favorite chocolate bars of all time, Amano’s Dos Rios Dominican Republic. Yes, there’s a forward note of creamy vanilla mocha, but following are juicy orange candies and almost an Earl grey-like bergamot that continues to grow more prominent as it rests in the glass.

The palate is a combination of hot chocolate powder, red tea, blueberry, bergamot, and mixed spices, with a vanilla bean note growing with further sips.

The finish is sweet and velvety but drying, again think red tea, Mexican hot chocolate, caramel cappuccino, and vanilla bean leaving you ready for another sip.
