Hallowed Spirits Introduces Thirty-One Lengths 15-Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon

Thirty-one lengths.

That was Secretariat’s winning margin at the 1973 Belmont Stakes, one of the most dominant performances in horse racing history. More than 50 years later, that moment is the inspiration behind Thirty-One Lengths, a new limited Kentucky bourbon created in collaboration with the Chenery-Tweedy family, Claiborne Farm, and Louisville-based Hallowed Spirits.

The whiskey itself is equally ambitious. Thirty-One Lengths is a 15-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon bottled at 100 proof.

The bottle itself draws directly from Secretariat’s story. Its silhouette takes inspiration from the oval of Belmont Park, the blue-and-white detailing references his racing silks, and each bottle is topped with a handmade porcelain carnation stopper.

Secretariat spent his retirement at Claiborne Farm and is buried there today, making the collaboration especially fitting. Thirty-One Lengths was created as a tribute not simply to the horse, but to the performance that became his defining moment.

Ripe red fruits of strawberry and raspberry meet sweet aromatic oak, lemon pound cake icing, chocolate-covered blueberry açaí berries, worn leather, and fig jam.

The palate is effortless and balanced, continuing with dried red fruit notes before moving into sweet tobacco, semi-dry oak, and hints of nutmeg and white pepper that keep all the flavors in check.

The finish is long and buttery, offering a slightly saturated, Cabernet-like dampness. Dried cherry, fig, and leather continue alongside light touches of spice, leading to a controlled and elegant fruity-oak close.
