Great Wagon Road RUA American Single Malt Whiskey 148 proof - Selected by Seelbach's
|
Today's release is a beautiful little time capsule. American Single Malts are having a moment, and you’ll hear no complaints from us. We've been bringing in Rúa American Single Malt since 2020 when we had our first single barrel, in addition to their sherry and port finished. You may or may not remember the standard Rúa being a contender for Fred Minnick's Best Whiskey of the Year that year.
2020 was a very different time. This barrel was first selected in April of that year, and it was suggested to continue to let it age. After a lot of back and forth, and a lot of patience, we finally have our Leap Year barrel, barreled February 29, 2016.
Rúa is hand-crafted from only three ingredients: 100% Organic & Non-GMO Two-Row Pilsner Barley, spring water from the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains and yeast before aging in 25 Gallon Char #3 American White Oak Barrels from Kelvin Cooperage in Louisville, KY.
Available exclusively at Seelbach's, this release of Rúa is one you don't want to miss. Harvested from the 50th barrel ever produced by Great Wagon Road Distilling in Charlotte, North Carolina, this exceptional release boasts an impressive 7.5 years of aging in a 25 gallon barrel and a whopping 148 proof, setting a new standard as their oldest and highest proof whiskey to date. Because of the stats, barrel strength bottling, and typical yields from these barrels, they are bottled in a 375 ml size. Rich maple syrup, smoke, concentrated fig, saw dust, ground nutmeg and cinnamon, ripe red fruits with a hint of unripe strawberry. The palate continues similarly with fig, rich dark chocolate, maple syrup, ground spices, barrel char. The finish is long with lots of cinnamon, wood spice, fig, and hints of smoke.
We've decided to bundle this with the standard Rúa American Single Malt, and will only have 90 total sets available.
