Four Gate Whiskey Private Select

It's always exciting to see a project come to life. The Four Gate barrel program started with a call to Four Gate team in the summer of 2020. I was pushing hard for a private barrel. They finally gave in last year! Thanks to that, Four Gate has been gracious enough to give us four barrels this year. That includes one a the few 10-year bourbon barrels. After tasting it I tried to convince them not to finish the barrel. It was delicious and I didn't want to screw anything up. Not surprisingly, they were right and the addition of toasted oaked added a whole new layer of complexity.
The 10-Year bourbon is limited to 1 bottle per person. The 7-year Kentucky Bourbon is no slouch! It's syrupy and well-balanced. Plus, the rumored source blew my mind. The ryes are excellent as well. I don't believe mint and herbal profiles pair well with toasted barrels. It's taste like vanilla mint gum I accidently bought one time. I tasted through a lot of samples but finally found two ryes that were fruit and spice forward. I wanted to name the 7-year "breakfast in a bottle" because I swear it is waffles and syrup on the nose.
