Rare Character Curated Batch & Hurst Knoll Rye + Black Maple Hill Premium Small Batch Restock

Rare Character remains one of the most exciting brands in whiskey right now, but the limited nature of their offerings has made it difficult to share them widely. When we get single barrels in, they normally sell out quickly during our PRO member access, making it rare for our main audience to see them. Don’t get me wrong, these will still sell out quickly, but when given the opportunity to have a larger yield Curated Batch for our audience, we knew we had to take it. 

We’ve journeyed alongside them since some of the earliest single barrels, from our IRT-35 5-year bourbon to the “Origin Series” RIO barrels and many more along the way. Over the years, we’ve watched Rare Character steadily grow and expand into new product lines like Rare Character Limited Release, Brook Hill, Old Cassidy, Pride of Anderson County, and most recently, Black Maple Hill. They’ve also continued to refine their barrel program, bringing us here today with a Curated Batch for our Seelbach’s audience.

With the variety of whiskey at their disposal, the Curated Batch gives both us and Rare Character the ability to build on what we’ve collectively learned together over the years and create something truly with its own character. This 7-11 year blend of Kentucky Straight Bourbon comes in at 123 proof and is packed with flavor.

To help spread the love and increase access to Rare Character's portfolio, we will also have some bundles with Hurst Knoll Rye as well as a restock of Black Maple Hill Premium Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

The nose is buttery caramel-topped baked apple pie and shortbread cookies, with an underlying flat cherry cola note and lingering damp rickhouse oak. There’s a little worn leather and dark caramel underneath it all. Sparkling and creamy, candied and rustic.

The palate is bold and spiced, with charred oak leading before dried cherry and cranberry, spiced apple, and spiced vanilla bean. Dark chocolate and a touch of leather build underneath the fruit and oak. It’s rich and punchy, not leaning too syrupy, creamy, or spiced, but happily sharing elements of all three and drinking closer to a 10+ year old cask-strength Buffalo Trace bourbon.

The finish brings mature sweet oak, Dr Pepper syrup, and softly tannic cherry, with cinnamon, cocoa powder, and tobacco building underneath. It dries slightly through the finish, but keeps enough dark sweetness to balance the oak and spice.
