Four Gate Whiskey Batch 11
|We're back with another Four Gate Whiskey Batch! Bob from Four Gate has been hyping this release up to me for the last six months. I finally got a chance to try it last week and he wasn't blowing smoke! This whiskey has a fantastic nose and a really fruity palate. They sourced these finishing barrels from Virago Rum in Virginia. Since Seelbach's also carries these rums, I've included them below.
Four Gate Whiskey Company Batch 11 - Ruby Rye Springs
Age: 7-Years-Old
Mash Bill: 95/5 Rye/Malted Barley
Proof: 113.4 proof
Finish: forty-two days in Ruby Port-Rum casks
Bottle Count: 1,444
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Fruit cake, tart gum drops, lemon and orange zest, and spicy rye.
Taste: A sweet-tart red berry note greets the tip of the tongue with a spicy black pepper flowing down the center palate. Raspberries and blueberries surround the periphery with a hint of citrus rounding out the taste.
Finish: Medium-to-long, the black pepper, and sweet red fruits dominate the start, with sweet molasses rounding out the viscous mouthfeel.
Four Gate Whiskey is releasing its 11th batch of whiskey, and once again presenting a popular 7-Year Old Indiana Straight Rye Whiskey, this time finished for forty two days in Ruby Port-Rum casks.
Virago Ruby Port Cask Finished Rum
The first in a series of cask-finished products, this expression of Virago offers an intriguingly delicious re-interpretation of our flagship Four-Port Rum. Having spent months in freshly-emptied casks of ruby port from Portugal’s Douro Valley, this spirit exudes an earthy depth, featuring layered notes of campfire, brown sugar, black cherry, pipe tobacco and leather with a finishing hint of candied almond.
