Tasting Notes

Nose: Proofy nose, but all the dark richness you'd want. Plum, luxardo cherry, blackberry, dates and chocolate covered raisins. This was the consensus favorite nose out of 8 samples. So dark and rich, we could not believe it wasn't finished. For those who've had one, think of the viscous, rich complex nose you get from a really good Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend (JMCB). All encompassing, there's the rich vanilla toffee oiliness of well aged MGP, the butterscotch base of light whiskey, and the intense dark fruits from the Armagnac and Cognac, with less of the fortified wine finish influence, and more of the dark chocolate from a well aged single barrel. It's an intensely sweet nose but still has notes of clove, cinnamon apple butter, nutmeg, and a tangerine/candied orange spice profile. The oak here is dark char, baker's chocolate, with heavy well worn saddle leather, but there's so much fruit, it's not musty at all.

Palate: All dark rich toffee up front with that dark plum, luxardo cherry, blackberry/date/raisin influence, that transitions quickly to a proofy explosion of clove, cinnamon apple, nutmeg, candied orange, none of which is at all sharp as it's coated in oily viscousness. While it drinks well under the proof point, there's a pop-rocks effect effervescence to the mid-palate, with waves upon waves of spice hitting the roof of the mouth. Post mid-palate transition, this finishes a mile long with more butterscotch, vanilla toffee, bitter-sweet chocolate as the fruits continue to roll and cascade. On the very finish, there's tons of dark barrel char, slightly drying, but still underneath the lasting toffee sweetness, and that leather, tobacco and charred oak lasts for ages. This finish is two-staged, long and cascading. This pour will make you go, "What?!?!" If ever there was a Samuel L. Pulp Fiction whiskey that attacks, yet pleases the palate in the best way, this whale of a Copper and Cask MF barrel (florida aged MGP) is it.

"Say 'what' again. Say 'what' again. I dare you. I double dare you motherfucker. Say 'what' one more Goddamn time!"
