Old Elk Wheat Whiskey #301 116.4 Proof - Selected by Seelbach's
Mashbill: 95/5 Wheat/Malted Barley
Barrel #: 301
Bottle Count: 168 bottles
Proof: 116.4 proof
Tasting Notes: Syrupy vanilla and cherry. The nose is fully of caramel apples and dried baking spice. The palate is a change of pace from the nose. It's drier with almond and, toasted pine nuts and a bit of tobacco. It takes another turn and opens up to herbal tea with some nice floral and fruity notes. I selected this barrel because of how the taste profile varies. Its a journey in a glass!
Wheat mash bills have all the same challenges of a rye and are never an easy path to take when distilling, but Metze decided to craft Old Elk’s Straight Wheat Whiskey in the spirit of the acclaimed 95 percent rye whiskey. He applied all of his expertise and knowledge into producing another one of a kind product: a mash bill of 95 percent soft red winter wheat and five percent malted barley, aged for five years, this whiskey is a vivacious and refreshing spirit that is reinventing what it means to be a sipping whiskey.
