Manatawny Still Works Peated American Single Malt Finished in Sherry Casks

Manatawny Still Works Peated American Single Malt Finished in Sherry Casks

Regular price $74.99 Sale

ABV/Proof: ABV 47% / 94 proof

Mash bill: 100% Simpsons Peated Malt

Tasting Notes: Highland peat, chocolate, toasted marshmallow, stone fruits, leather, orange peel.

About the product: Because peat can be such a bold flavor, Manatawny carefully chooses to focus all its peated whiskey production for the year back-to-back in a single “Peat Week.” This allows them to complete a deep clean before returning to typical production, avoiding the risk of introducing peat flavors to other distillates.

The result? Excellent peated whiskeys that benefit from the internal anticipation and focus that come from “Peat Week.”

The American Single Malt whiskey in this batch comes from Manatawny’s 2019 distilling season, when the chosen theme for their whiskies was “balance.” They tempered the heavily peated distillate by aging it first for three years in 53-gallon, American oak barrels that had previously held their Four Grain whiskey. Then they finished the whiskey in a 132-gallon Oloroso Sherry puncheon to impart fruit and sweetness.

This whiskey is big on flavor. While peat is forward, it is not overwhelming, and is neatly balanced by the sweetness from the sherry.

Founded in 2010, Kings County uses New York grain and traditional distilling equipment to produce whiskey in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, just steps from the former waterfront distillery district and the legendary site of the 1860s Brooklyn Whiskey Wars. Every drop the distillery sells is made in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
