Macurichos Espadín + Cacao Mezcal (48.8% ABV) is a handcrafted mezcal made in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca by Maestro Mezcalero Valentín Martinez Sernas and his family. Produced from 100% mature Espadín agave, it’s cooked in an earthen pit, milled with a traditional stone tahona, fermented in wooden vats, and distilled twice in a clay pot (Filipino) still. During the second distillation, the family adds fresh Oaxacan cacao made by the Martinez Sernas sisters.
After resting 21 months in glass, the result is a beautifully integrated mezcal with aromas of hot cocoa and gentle smoke. The palate is light and elegant, offering notes of pink peppercorn, jasmine, herbs, soft cacao, and a smoky backbone. The finish is earthy, salty, and slightly dusty, reminiscent of rustic Oaxacan chocolate.
A true family creation, this mezcal blends generations of mezcal-making tradition with the family’s own chocolate craft, resulting in a unique and deeply expressive spirit.
