Mal Bien Papalote (Destilado de Agave) is made by Don Antonio Sonido and his son Don Lorenzo in the community of Pantitlán, using Papalote (Agave cupreata) grown on their family land. The Sonido family is well known for their extensive Espadín fields and for creating the original recipe for “Borrego” pechuga mezcal.
This batch was distilled in May 2021 and produced just 402 bottles, released under the Mal Bien label.
About Mal Bien:
Since 2016, the Mal Bien team has traveled across Mexico to work directly with traditional mezcal producers. Their journey has taken them into remote mountains, rural communities, and places rarely seen by visitors—leading to unforgettable experiences and partnerships with some of Mexico’s most skilled and storied mezcaleros. The spirits they bottle aim to honor these producers, their traditions, and the regions they come from.
