Starlight Double Oaked & Toasted Double Oaked Bourbon
|
We say this often, but Starlight is a distillery that needs no introduction. For the last three years they've dominated the private barrel scene and led the way in regards to unique barrel finishes. (Hear more about that in our video we recorded recently at Starlight above.)
While both releases feature secondary barreling in French Oak, the Toasted Series is twice barreled into new heavy toasted French oak casks from Limousin, France. The wood has been air seasoned between 24-36 months before being crafted and hand toasted by the master coopers at Tonnellerie Baron.
If you've thought the amburana finish was a touch extreme or too funky for a 'cigar batch' this toasted double oaked is a great alternative.
Starlight #22-2511-1 Double Oaked Bourbon
For being a double oaked the nose is quite citrusy and crisp, a nice change of pace from the usual rich wood undertones. That being said, there is a soft warm leather note to be found.
The palate brings a more robust profile, rich in honey, baking spices, juicy stone fruit, honeydew melon and toasted sugars.
Chewy and caramelly as it lingers, the finish pulls out long notes of semi-sweet chocolates and espresso.
Starlight #23-2023-1 Toasted Series Double Oaked Bourbon
Warm welcomed spices and campfire immediately come to mind here. Buttery toffee, charred oak, strawberry preserves, and toasted
vanilla.
Cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove fill the palate with mulled wine coming right behind before a long lingering campfire heft.
The finish is dry yet saturated on the palate, with wine-like tannins and well charred oak and toasted vanilla continuing on.
