When I received this barrel sample I mistaked it for coffee. Not because of the taste. The color was incredibly rich and dark. This barrel was 5.5 years old from Green River Distilling. It aged in one of the top racks of the top floor in Owensboro, KY. A few more years and this thing may have been over-oaked. At the 5.5 year mark it was drinking like a 10-year bourbon. Unfortunately, the bottle yield was rather low. This seemed poetic since it's our first ever barrel pick from Shortbarrel! I still wish there was more.
I don't earmark every pick as a "must try". I know this brand and bottle may be newer to some Seelbach's readers. Trust me, you won't be disappointed when you give it a try.

Tasting Notes: The nose is like smelling an empty old fashioned glass. Notes of cocktail cherries, orange zest and a touch of oak. It's warm and inviting. We taste through a lot of whiskey but I still remember this nose a week after reviewing! There's so much going on with this palate. Warm baking spice. Cherry cobbler. Peach tea. It really just keeps on going. It's hard to claim something is extremely drinkable at 120+ proof but this is the bottle. Finish is long with some more tea and dried apricot.
