Rua American Single Malt Is Back
|There's a new category forming and making a name for itself in craft distilling. American Single Malt has seen a huge increase in popularity over the last five years. Each year brings even more entrants into this category. Great Wagon Road Distilling Co.'s Rua Single Malt is one of the leading entrants in the category. We're lucky enough to receive some of our own "Selected by Seelbach's" single barrel! We've also received some of the limited Port finsihed Rua and Sherry finished Rua.

Rúa is Gaelic for "Red Head", an apt name for this richly hued American Single Malt Whiskey. Rúa is hand-crafted from only three ingredients: 100% Organic & Non-GMO Two-Row Pilsner Barley, exceptionally pure spring water from the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains and yeast. That’s it, no additives of any kind are added.
Tasting Notes: The nose is sweet and grainy. There's a little bit of grassiness. It's balanced with notes of raspberry and caramel. The taste is full of cereal and brown sugar. There's some of the lasting fruitiness on the finish. All around this is an enjoyable single malt. I love exploring this category of whiskeys. Each distillery seems to add their own spin on the mash bill which plays out in the taste. If you're looking for an entry point into American Single Malts this is a great place to start. It's on the sweeter side but approachable. |
