The team at Pursuit Spirits has been on a tear lately, from the success of Pursuit United Double Oak Bourbon and Rye to the release of Sakura Bloom and, most recently, taking home Rye of the Year at the 2026 ASCOT Awards with Pursuit United Triple Batch Rye Barrel Proof. Not only that, but they've done a number of collaborations, including Honey Hog with Matt Pittman of Meat Church, as well as their latest Found Footage collaboration with Shortbarrel. Over the last few years, we've been fortunate enough to pick a handful of Double Oak bourbons and ryes, but fresh off our Triple Batch Bourbon last month we have our first Triple Batch Rye Barrel Proof single barrel.
Pursuit introduced the Barrel Proof versions of Triple Batch Bourbon and Rye in May of last year, expanding the lineup beyond its original 108-proof expressions with both 88-proof and barrel-proof releases.
Continuing with their marriage of ryes from Kentucky and Maryland, this blend spent nearly a full year in its marrying cask. With 5.5 years of total age, this 112.8-proof rye brings together 95% rye, 5% malted barley from both Kentucky and Maryland, along with a 52% rye 43% corn 5% malted barley mashbill from Maryland.
This barrel is a fantastic example of why this rye won ASCOT Rye of the Year and why so many people have been talking about it since the latter part of 2025.
The nose is plush, with lightly tangy tangerine cream, sweet oak, stewed cherry syrup, dried cranberries, and sugar-sprinkled grapefruit before a gradual emergence of campfire smoke and toasted marshmallow.
The palate is an energetic blend of licorice and allspice, dancing together on first impression before moving into dark berry compote, overcooked caramel, and grapefruit-infused vanilla custard.
The finish moves into brighter notes of lemon curd-filled pastry and Dutch apple pie, remaining dry and comfortably spiced, with continual flashes of dried fruit and seasoned oak.
