We've had several J. Rieger bourbons and our first single barrel rye not long ago on the site, but today we are back with another unique Echoland Cabernet Franc finished Kansas City Whiskey. While these may seem easy to overlook, they are one of our favorite products that come out of J. Rieger.

Jacob Rieger & Company was founded in 1887 in Kansas City’s West Bottoms Livestock Exchange district. The brand offered over 100 alcoholic products and took pride in maintaining a quarter of a million unique customers by offering mail-order delivery services. J Rieger & Co became yet another casualty due to Prohibition, only to be reborn in 2014 when their co-founders, including the great-great-great-grandson of Jacob Rieger, resurrected the brand.

J. Rieger's Kansas City Whiskey is a blend of straight bourbon whiskey, light corn whiskey, and straight rye whiskey, all aged at least four years, as well as a small amount of 15-year-old oloroso sherry from the Williams & Humbert Bodega in Jerez, Spain. This was then aged an additional 18 months in an Echoland Cabernet Franc cask. Before we had so many ready-to-pour options on the market, a bottle of Kansas City Whiskey was our go-to for someone who wants that cocktail-in-a-glass feel from a whiskey. The result is one of our favorite whiskey picks all year long for the curious drinker.

This is the best sherry on the nose. Rich, dried fruit balanced by the spice and oak of the whiskey. This is a high proof RTD cocktail in a bottle.

The palate starts with blackberry jam, vanilla, and dried orange peel. The Cab Franc starts to show on the palate with some softer wine notes. For everything going on in this bottle it's extremely well structured and balanced.

The finish starts with notes of Werthers originals and spice. It then moves to a note of concord grape juice and tobacco.
