River Roots Port Finished Bourbon

Our two previous 13 and 14 year old port finished bourbon releases from River Roots came and went fairly quickly, with our last only having a handful of bottles make it out of Pro. Our River Roots American Malt Whiskey didn't make it to the Main list at all! Today, we are back with one more port finished bourbon for you all. Now at 14.7 years total age, the uniqueness of these are in their extended finishing times - 6 years in port wine barrels! This barrel, however, is a bit more off-profile. While no slouch on the proof at 138, this one subs out the heavy proof monster profiles of the last two for a bit more focus on the finish.
While the nose sets itself up to pack a punch, the intensity of the finishing is what is highlighted most here. Juicy, satiating, intense port fruitiness, vanilla extract, brown sugar, and damp rickhouse.
Much like the nose, the palate is focused on intense fruit saturation. Where VBS-04 was thick chocolate, deeply syrupy with dense fruit intensity, VSB-05 is a much cleaner entry, still with milk chocolate and dark cherry but followed with deep, dry, earthy tobacco and mushroomy funk.
The lingering finish goes back to highlighting fruity sweetness with trailing balanced oak that continues to draw out the longer you sip.
