Heaven's Door Single Barrel
|There is a lot of momentum presently for Heaven's Door, co-founded by Bob Dylan and Marc Bushala (formerly of Angel's Envy). Last year we talked about their newly opened brand center, The Last Refuge, just outside of downtown Louisville, housing a small live music venue, a private event space and a restaurant and bar in addition to their distillery located on over 160 acres of rolling hills astride Six Mile Creek in Pleasureville, Kentucky.
I continually feel, for the price and flavor profile, that these picks get slept on. Today we have a new 6 year, 70% corn, 22% rye, 8% barley bourbon distilled in Tennessee. This one hits a bit more unique profile than our last, leaning a bit more smoked and savory while still having deep cooked red fruits.
Big caramel, big luxardo cherry, big pronounced wood right off the bat. The nose is deep and juicy with a creamy, honey stickiness and nice leather.
Viscous right away - deep, baked cherry notes and heavy dark chocolate. The finish has a fun cooling sensation joining this charred oak notes but underlying with toffee and chocolate cream. Smoked leather and high percentage sea salted dark chocolate.
The finish trails thick with heavy leather and caramel but begins to fade for spiced chocolate to linger a bit longer.
