Hazmat Cigar Blend??

|

Yes, the brand with most unique custom glass bottles is back. Today we are back with one of our favorite hidden gems out of Colorado - 13th Century. Not just one though, we are back with a whole slew of new releases including their  Cigar Blend Reserve Whiskey.  (You may remember last year when their 25 Barrel Blend released I had mentioned I thought it was George T. Stagg in the glass and spoiler... it's still in stock.)

Crafted at the base of Colorado's Pike’s Peak, 13th Century Whiskey is aged in small 30-gallon barrels, creating complex, cask-strength spirits that are both robust for enthusiasts and smooth for casual drinkers. They also age in New Charred American White Oak Casks Chars 2, 3, 4, & 5, creating an array of flavors at their disposal for their blends.

Their bourbons use a unique mash bill of 88% Corn, 7% Rye, 5% Barley, while their rye is 95% rye, 5% malted barley, and their American Single Malt 100% malted barley. The cigar blend is aged 8 years in only char 4 & 5 30 gallon barrels then aged an additional year in a 53 gallon new char 1 heavy toasted barrel, giving up a rich and robust sip that fans of 13th Colony Double Oaked should be a fan of.

13th Century Whiskey Straight American Single Malt

The nose leads with mint and melon maltiness in tandem, with plenty of chocolate mousse and sweet oak continuing.

The palate follows much the same way, fruit-fronted vanilla and caramel and lingering root beer float with a chocolatey sweet oak.

The finish is long and clinging, yet still creamy with smokey chocolate, tobacco, and custard.

13th Century Whiskey Straight Rye Whiskey

The nose is sugar kissed but well peppered, with plenty of baked apple pie, and long, dry, rye bread notes.

The palate has plenty of caramel to join the baked apple pie from the nose, but even some grape and blueberry notes join the mix. Like the nose, the palate still ends more on the dry and spiced side with that rye grain showing prominently.

The finish is long and dry, but still carries caramel, toffee, lemon oil, and oak in a long tart finish.

13th Century Whiskey Straight Bourbon Whiskey

The nose has classic brown sugars, vanilla, and warm toasted oak.

The palate is sweet forward - deep charred oak, baked berries, dried cherry and plum, with plenty of cinnamon spiced vanilla, brown sugar, and candied pie crust continuing.

The finish is long and mature, rich and custardy with plenty of spices, fudge brownies, and deep seasoned oak.

13th Century Whiskey Toasted Barrel Bourbon

The nose is freshly charred oak, slightly smokey caramel, and lemon cream pie.

The palate is rich and well-coating, enveloping with spiced caramel, plenty of dried fruitiness, expressed citrus oils, and heavily warming smoked oak notes.

The finish is long and creamy, citrus infused toffee, warming spices, and long lasting charred oak.

13th Century Whiskey Cigar Blend Bourbon Reserve

The nose is deep and robust - heavy chocolates, torched creme brûlée top, and heavy charred oak.

While the palate is rich and gripping, it still somehow drinks below its proof. Like the toasted barrel but turned to 11, this one slowly coats the entire palate with spiced caramel, vanilla, singed citrus peel, plenty of dried fruits and warm, smoked, chocolate oak notes.

The finish is dense and lasting, with plenty of warming spices, baked berries, freshly brewed dark roast coffee, and heavy chocolate with well seasoned oak.
